I haven't used avidemux in about a decade. Most will be in the Canonical repos - like KDenLive or Shotcut or the other 10 programs. There are lots of video editors if you need transitions or track controls. Between my Ryzen desktop systems, this problem doesn't happen, though the remote machine is 6 inches away from the other one. The window gets displayed, but never filled in.

It has an AppImage for distribution, but appimages don't notify of available updates. The main downside to LosslessCut is that it is a bloated, slow, electron application. LosslessCut is a non-transcoding video editor that will accept an mplayer EDL file. mplayer can create an EDL using human input for the location of the cuts, then that can be massaged into an mkvmerge script. You can use ffmpeg or mkvmerge to edit videos if you want a CLI method. There are lots of video editors on Linux. (even) Partial answers can be very helpful and appreciated in advance. What are we supposed to do do get basic avidemux from a trustable source There are complicated alternatives, but they sound untrustable, plus they don't work. In the past there was avidemux for video editing. It is in repository, so no problem there.
